#Music Monday (happy music for now)

I am gonna take some time off from movie OST's to give way to happy or feel good songs. Not that I've run out of ideas for movie OST's but more like sampling some songs that I loved listening to in order to feel happy. Another reason is that I like listening to these songs is I listen to them when i'm in love or like someone. LoL :-)

The song was covered by the American reggae/pop band Big Mountain in 1994, reaching number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart[1] and number 2 on the UK Singles Chart. Their version is featured on the soundtrack for the 1994 movie Reality Bites. In the film itself, Michael Grates (played by Ben Stiller) explains the origins of the Frampton song.

"Kokomo" is a song written by John Phillips, Scott McKenzie, Mike Love and Terry Melcher and recorded by The Beach Boys in spring 1988. Its lyrics describe two lovers taking a trip to a relaxing Caribbean island called Kokomo. It was released as a single in July 1988 by Elektra Records and became a No. 1 Hit in the United States, Japan and Australia (where it topped for about two months). The single was released to coincide with the release of the Tom Cruise movie Cocktail, and its subsequent soundtrack. It was nominated in the Grammy Award category: Best Song written specifically for a Motion Picture or Television in 1988, but lost to Phil Collins's "Two Hearts" (from the film Buster).

#Music Monday (movie/tv OST)

"Sway" is a 1997 New Zealand music single by Bic Runga. It appeared on her first album, Drive, and it was featured in the 1999 film American Pie.

An episode of Scrubs, "My Best Friend's Mistake," repeats the song throughout, comparing it to 'a virus' that keeps spreading.

The Smashing Pumpkins recorded a cover of the song and released it as a b-side on their rare 1994 CD single "Rocket". Billy Corgan is a longtime fan of Depeche Mode. In 1998, Depeche Mode invited Corgan, their opening act, onstage to perform the song together. This version of the song is also featured on the soundtrack for Not Another Teen Movie (in the soundtrack of the movie, another cover of a Depeche Mode song appears: But Not Tonight, this one covered by Stone Temple Pilots’ Scott Weiland). When discussing the tribute album For the Masses, which the Smashing Pumpkins cover appears on, Martin Gore said he'd "always liked" the Pumpkins cover, while Dave Gahan said he "particularly liked it", and even thought it was "a lot better" than the Depeche Mode original.

#Music Monday (let's go acoustic/live for today...)

Taking a break from movie OST since i'm still running out of ideas at the moment. Going back to my other favorite which is acoustic/live versions which I love to hear on a weekend.

Hope you guys enjoy the three songs I picked. Happy Music Monday!

"Honestly" is a single released in 1992 by Canadian glam metal band Harem Scarem. The song appears on their 1991 self-titled debut album. The song charted at #68 on the Canadian singles chart and also had a music video shot for it.

"Don't Stop Believin" is a popular song by the American rock band Journey, originally released as a single from their 1981 album Escape, which became a #9 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 on its original release. In the United Kingdom, the song was not a Top 40 hit on its original release; however, it did reach #4 on a 2009 re-release, having gained increased popularity through its use on American television.

"Landslide" is a song written by Stevie Nicks and performed by British-American music group Fleetwood Mac. It was first featured on the band's 1975 eponymous album Fleetwood Mac. Along with Rhiannon, it would be Nicks's first original contribution to the band upon joining. A live version was released as a single 23 years later from the live reunion album The Dance.

#Music Monday (Mr. Holland's Opus)

Enjoy listening to three songs taken from Mr. Holland's Opus' OST. Happy MM!

Emotional climax from Mr. Holland's Opus with Richard Dreyfuss as Mr. Holland and the enchanting singer Jean Louisa Kelly playing his student who performs this beautiful song to secretly tell her conductor and tutor (Dreyfuss) that she desires and needs him (to watch over her).

In the audience sits Holland's surprised wife with the play's brochure after discovering the singer's name is Rowena (Morgan). A few weeks ago she overheard her husband composing a new melody calling it "Rowena's Theme". When asked about the name he makes up a pretext (even though he's actually loyal to his wife).

However, during this performance she begins to wonder whether her husband is having an extramarital affair with the young singer. He does not but his face shows that he is tempted and flattered at the same time.

Dreyfuss and his wife both have a lump in their throats (for different reasons) and so did I when I first watched this bold approach by the young student!

Notice that the lyrics of the song perfectly match the film's interwoven story. Here's an excerpt:

"Although he may not be the man
Some girls think of as handsome
To my heart he carries the key

Won't you tell him please to put on some speed
Follow my lead, oh how I need
Someone to watch over me"

Enjoy this captivating and literally breathtaking performance by Jean Louisa Kelly and all the other actors who IMHO make this scene most memorable!

#Music Monday

I was at loss again for movie OST's for #Music Monday. A fellow PExer suggested that I try kiddie songs and I remembered Disney movies. Hope you enjoy my two entries and incidentally this is my first blog post for 2012.

Happy New Year!!! :-)

"Journey to the Past" is a song written by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty for the 1997 animated film Anastasia. The song was originally recorded by actress Liz Callaway to be included in the film and was later re-recorded by singer Aaliyah as an pop-R&B single to promote the soundtrack.

"When You Wish upon a Star" is a song written by Leigh Harline and Ned Washington for Walt Disney's 1940 adaptation of Pinocchio. The original version of the song was sung by Cliff Edwards in the character of Jiminy Cricket, and is heard over the opening credits and again in the final scene of the film. The song has since become the representative song of The Walt Disney Company.

#Music Monday (shift to party music)

A fellow PExer asked me if I can post party music for my #Music Monday and I had a hard time thinking of party music related to movie OST's. I guess the following tracks should do for now and I hope everyone likes my picks for #Music Monday. Songs #3 and #4 are my favorites (I still hate Vevo for slow video loading and greedy record companies)

#Music Monday (still hooked to Moviie OST's)

"Here Comes the Sun" is a song by George Harrison from The Beatles' 1969 album Abbey Road. It is regarded as one of the most popular Beatles songs. The song was written while Harrison was away from all of these troubles. In modern times the song's title has consistently been used by newspapers around the world, to announce the arrival of the summer weather.

Second song is "The Winner Is" from OST of Little Miss Sunshine. The song was performed by DeVotchKa which is a four-piece multi-instrumental and vocal ensemble

"Breaking Up Is Hard to Do" is a song recorded by Neil Sedaka, and co-written by Sedaka and Howard Greenfield. Sedaka recorded this song twice, in 1962 and 1975, in two vastly different arrangements. You can here this song from the movie “Riding in Cars with Boys” which was released in 2001.
